The Challenge

An iconic shoe store located in Branford, Ontario. They have been around for 70 years, from a simple shoe repair shop to one of the largest shoe factories and outlets in Southwestern Ontario. They have 17,000 square feet of shopping with more than 500 brands under one roof. Al’s came to us because they needed help dealing with the impact of COVID lockdowns. Previous to this, they did not need a website as they would routinely see thousands of people per day come in and out of their warehouse. We had two objectives upon meeting with the team at Al’s shoe factory outlet. The first was to ensure that the general public realized that the Brantford location was the official Al shoe factory outlet. And secondly, it was to showcase all of the shoes they carried in their store, as they have over 500 brands.

The Process

After meeting with Al’s Shoe Factory Outlet, we identified that the main issue was that they had no website and no online presence. We decided to create a website that would showcase the vastness of their products and include an online booking system. The business owner wanted us to make a booking system that would allow customers to book for curbside pick-up. The business had its official location in Brantford, Ontario, which we decided to showcase on the new website. The owner wanted us to include photos to showcase over 500 different brands of shoes. We identified a strategy for the business to create a photo library of their products and to share the pictures with us so we could upload them to the new website. The other main issue was that the business had no online presence. We helped the owner set up social media accounts and promote their products.

The Solution

Smashing Pixels went to work by reading a photo strategy, which enabled Al’s shoe factory team to engage their employees, take pictures of shoes, and upload them. We would then download those images, size them correctly for the website and upload them. This strategy enabled us to streamline a system to get 7,000 different pairs of shoes on their website within two months. Al’s was able to open again to the general public with curbside pickup and delivery options. We also worked with Al in creating a social media presence. They did not have a website presence and no social media presence. We quickly grew their followers to over 5,000, enabling them to showcase new arrivals and update their messaging just as fast as it came in. When Al’s shoe factory came to us, they were an incredibly successful shoe warehouse without any web presence. Now they’re an incredibly successful shoe warehouse that dominates the web when selling shoes.

“We’re loving our new website. Trevor and his team helped bring our vision to life. They were great and easy to work with. I highly recommend their team for all your web needs!”
