Following (pun intended) Twitter’s lead, LinkedIn has introduced a pretty cool new feature, which allows you to subscribe to a lengthy list of thought leaders.
You can now select from an absolutely impressive line up of 150 influential thought leaders from all walks of life and receive their personal posts in your regular LinkedIn feed.
US President Obama, Prime Minister David Cameron, Virgin Group founder and super cool dude entrepreneur Richard Branson, LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman the Huffington Post’s Arianna Huffington and visionaries such as Tim O’Reilly and Eric Ries are among the first 150 thought leaders that LinkedIn users can follow. I’m already following all of the above.
You can check out the full list of thought leaders here.
What makes this different from Twitter is that LinkedIn has effectively curated some of the top minds in the world to participate. I know,.. Twitter is much more organic in it’s growth and use by celebrities but the true thinkers I want to hear from are not as engaged on Twitter as I’d like. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Twitter but even though this is invitation only participation and not totally inline with true social media principals, I’m excited to see where this goes.
Fingers crossed that they don’t blow it!

LI is making so many changes all at once that I worry they may get lost. A more incremental approach would be easier for users. Do you think they really can usurp the place of all the other social networks? It sure seems like that is what they are trying to do.
I just hope they continue to build real solutions to a real problems not simply copy the features of other sites.
Thanks for sharing this new feature Kevin! I always enjoy plugging into what other Leaders are sharing! Many times their posts inspire or address a certain situation that is prevalent at the moment!
I am off to check this feature out!
Thanks again!

I have to admit… I’m lazy. I love the fact that things I read from people I admire are just going to show up in my feed. The thing I will need to watch out for, in a curated world, is ensuring that I’m not becoming tunnel visioned in what I’m reading.
Thanks for sharing this, Kevin! This is good info. Hopefully, this could be put into use, to the degree that feedback would be available to them, to look at, too.
I hadn’t thought of that angle. It’s really a great idea though.
Here’s a good question… who would you like to see be added to the list next?
