A picture is worth 1000 words
If a picture is worth a 1,000 words, then a good production video must be worth at least 3,844 votes, according to re-elected Brantford, Ontario, city councillor Dan McCreary.
“This campaign, we relied on Smashing Pixels to produce a voter contact video and manage YouTube and Facebook distribution,” says McCreary.
“It enabled us to reach a broader cross section of voters and contributed significantly to a best-ever vote total.”
This was no surprise to the team at Smashing Pixels.
“Video appears in 70% of the top 100 search results listings. Also, viewers are more likely to act, via vote or purchase, after watching a product video,” says Jody Matheson, producer and editor of the video.
As a company trying to expand in today’s tough market, you no longer have the luxury to decide whether or not you need to incorporate video into company marketing.
According to Zabisco, 40% of us humans respond better to visual information than a written blog. This is likely because 90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual, and our brains process visuals 60,000 times faster than text.
Coupled with the fact that we are no longer living in the stone age of connectivity (with many areas delivering 5G straight to your phone), this video hits a home run. Or, in Dan’s case, a re-election win.
“Modern successful political campaigns require a more sophisticated plan for voter contact,” says McCreary. “The days of only distributing a brochure or putting up lawn signs are gone.”
Here are some stats recently put out by comScore:
- If you include a video link in an email, there is a 96% greater chance the viewer will click through rather than ignoring or sending to trash.
- Someone searching for you online is more likely to click a video link BEFORE they click a text link.
- In January 2014, 190 Million Americans watched 75.6 Billion videos online.
- 1-in-6 videos are viewed on mobile device – up from 1-in-12 in 2013
And probably the biggest reason to seriously start using video is that 36% of all video produced is advertising. This means your competition is already doing it.
